MY HEART EMBRACES THE WORLD
The whole creation appears to be grieving. The earth is in pain, and we, as a people are
longing for healing and wholeness. The pandemic has continued to ravage the world claiming lives by millions and rendering people across the globe jobless, hungry and miserable which brought us to the point of seeming hopelessness but “whatever we suffer now will show up only dimly when compared to the wonders God has in store for us.”
Once again the spirituality of St. Therese Couderc on Goodness, Self-surrender and Finding God in all things has found meaning and relevance at this point in time. In the same vein, Pope Francis’s encyclical “Fratelli Tutti” envisions a new fraternity and social friendship – a humanity open to acknowledge one another with joy, a new culture that builds one another, being in solidarity regardless of race, color or creed. St. Therese Couderc’s “My heart embraces the world” assures us and inspires us to embrace the world, be the living hope of humanity and find God in all things.
To live with abandon, and to see the divine action in all the events of life. The surrendered soul has found paradise on earth.
I saw Goodness written on all things.
You are suffering, I see, but take courage... One cannot be a useful instrument without that. The best plan, it seems to me would be to wait with patience, with gentleness, with peace.
Let us spend these days in silence with Mother Therese allowing her spirit and life to speak to our hearts during these trying times.
1. As we plough through this pandemic, what call or invitation is stirred in me personally given my context and in us as a human race living in our common home, the Earth?
2. In many diverse cultures and dysfunctions in our respective societies and countries due to issues of race, ideologies, migration, what do we discern as sparks of God’s Goodness?
3. Where are we called to bring God’s mercy and love? How do we respond to the call to embrace the world?
4. With mother Therese who companions us in this pivotal time of our global history, how am I envisioning the new world to be? What are my dreams and hopes for humanity and creation?
